.La Grande évasion, adaptation du roman de Paul Brickhill, est tiré d'événements ayant réellement eu lieu. Paul Brickill fut ainsi l'un des trois qui parvinrent à rejoindre la frontière suisse après l'évasion de trois cent officiers d'un stalag allemand, en 1943. A noter que les célèbres scènes de moto du long métrage sont fictionnelles. C'est Steve McQueen qui en suggéra l'idée.
